Making a List

It’s the holiday season, but you don’t have to rely on the big guy to fulfill the wishes on your list. Taking charge of your own destiny is easier than you may believe…but you do need to believe.

At the beginning of each year I create a list of the things I hope to accomplish and when December rolls around I reflect upon that list that to see how my outrageous hopes and dreams measured up. When I write out all of my wins (no matter how big or small) and compare them to the vision I put in place, I am always completely humbled, excited, and amazed by how much I have grown, learned, and achieved over the course of twelve months.

2022 was no exception. In this year alone I transformed my life in three major ways. One, I quit my career of thirty years and I bought my own business. Two, I moved from being a part-time POSHMARK reseller into full time and doubling my annual sales total from the previous year. And three, I married the perfect man for me (read about it in my best second hand wedding blog post). These blessing did not happen by chance. They came directly from my heart and from the order I placed with the universe through my list of wants. And, it’s no secret that this secret works.

That’s right. Much like ordering a pizza with the best toppings, or purchasing a cart full of goodies from your favorite online store, you send out your requests from your hearts’ desire to the universe and wait for them to be delivered. Sound crazy? Here’s my rebuttal…if you can trust a complete stranger to bring you things to your door, why wouldn’t you trust the magical, wonderful, abundant and loving universe to do the same?

It’s not a new concept. The Law of Attraction has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years. In the simplest terms it states that whatever you focus your energy on will come back to you. Send out good thoughts, receive good things. The more specific you are with your requests, the better. When you order a pizza, you don’t just ask for a pizza. You give specific instructions for what you want it to have on it. Now apply this to your life. If you are looking for a relationship, you don’t just say you want a partner. You ask the universe for a partner who is kind, intelligent, compassionate, funny, etc. Order up exactly what you want. And, for any of you who may need this reminder, it is okay to want what you want.

The next steps are believing that your order will be delivered and then allowing space for the universe to work its magic and deliver. The allowing piece is where I used to go wrong. In the past, I wanted to control what happened, when it happened, and how it would happen from my list of wants. This was the cause for a lot of undue stress and aggravation because it never happened the way I wanted, or at all. So, on the last day of last year I got a tattoo. I was determined not to repeat my mistakes in the new year. Now, I’m not suggesting that you be so bold, but I knew I needed to see this particular message every day, lest I forget. I chose the phrase let go and allow. Simple, powerful, and out of my control. Exactly what I needed.

I don’t control anything I create.

Rhonda Byrne, author.

This year, when I found myself feeling discouraged or anxious that my wishes were not being delivered, I let go. I stopped thinking about them. I stopped trying different ways to make them appear. I just stopped and let go, giving space to the universe. And that’s when the magic happened. I had no idea when the new year began that I would have the courage to buy a business, or that I would even have the opportunity. But in July my order to improve my financial well-being was delivered. Was it how I would have fulfilled my wish myself? Absolutely not. It wasn’t even on my radar. But with zero hesitation, I allowed myself to receive this gift. That gift allowed my next wish to happen, and the next. Like a magical snowball.

It is truly a beautiful thing to write out your desires and allow them to arrive. This year, I chose to use my copy of Rhonda Byrne’s bestselling self-help manual The Secret as my own personal smash journal to write out my wishes. The book was already filled with great wisdom and positive energy so I decided to infuse it with my own. Adding my own positive messages and words for thought and action, I powered my way through 2022, checking off my orders as they arrived.

I encourage you to give it a try in the coming year. Pick up a copy of The Secret or other great Law of Attraction based titles to get started.
