Dive Right In

Summer is just around the corner, which makes it the perfect time to take the plunge on any project or idea you’ve been contemplating, imagining, or daydreaming about. If you are dipping your toes at the edge of the vast unknown, going in with the full force of a cannonball might not feel like the right approach. But, with the summer sun looming on the horizon and the easy, breezy wind on your side, there’s no better time than now to dive in.

If you have never heard of Steve Harvey, or have never heard his messages, you are missing out. Steve Harvey, aside from being a game-show host and multi-talented businessman, is one of the most motivational and inspiring speakers I have heard. The stories he tells, many from his own personal experiences, are genuinely thought-provoking and encouraging, definitely words to take to heart when you are faced with challenges or looking for advice when in the midst of needing to make a life-effecting decision.

Harvey’s 2016 publication Jump. Take the Leap of Faith to Achieve Your Life of Abundance is a great read for those who need a little nudge in order to take action in their lives.

If you desire greatness in your life, eventually you are going to have to jump.

Steve Harvey

Harvey explains eloquently and succinctly in this bestselling publication that jumping is taking a risk and making a leap of faith toward your dreams. He states that your willingness to jump will open doors for you, increase your vision, and broaden your vision, all necessary components to allow abundance to enter your life.

But, before we are able to jump, we need to figure out what it is we want to jump in to. What is your passion? What is your heart telling you that you were put on this earth to do? Many of us go through life day by day on someone else’s terms, following someone else’s vision. And, in doing that, we lose sight of our own inner desires. It’s easy to get caught on the hamster wheel of life where familiarity outweighs change. Risk and fear take control, and for many of us, we stay put, paralyzed at the edge of a cliff, only moving if life forces us to.

Not sure where to begin? Read the following list below to give you some food for thought. Find a quiet place where you can clear your mind as you answer the statements and questions quickly, jotting down the first responses that come to your mind. Really think about how YOU want to answer each statement, not what you think others would want to hear.

  • Name 3 things you loved to do in your youth
  • What do you define as your greatest strengths
  • What types of things do you do really well
  • Who or what inspires you (and why)
  • Name something that others compliment about you
  • If you could do anything right now, what would it be

If you answer these questions quickly and honestly enough, without doubt or judgement, you will begin to see and understand what is in your heart and perhaps a direction in which you can begin. Once you start to think about the possible ways in which you can follow your heart, it become easier to make a move. Taking a jump does not mean that you have to make the biggest leap. Small jumps will enhance your life just as well, and they will help you build the necessary confidence that can lead to bigger jumps. If you do nothing else today, I challenge you to take the smallest jump possible. So small that it requires very little effort or risk, but is enough to qualify as progress.

Do we know with certainty how any jump will work out? No. But, as the adage goes, you never know until you try. Or, as legendary rockers Van Halen advise us through the vocals of David Lee Roth, you might as well jump. Because, what you have to lose will most likely end up being minor compared to everything you have to gain.
