My First PoshFest

Active and avid in the resale world as a part-time seller on Poshmark since 2014, PoshFest was something I heard about, but didn’t take seriously . In years past, this annual 2-day conference was held on location in cities like Phoenix, Dallas, and San Francisco (to name a few), and to be honest, I did not have the time, money, or personal drive to invest into this conference for entrepreneurs because, frankly, I did not consider myself to be one.

Flash forward to 2021. After seven years of dipping my feet into the Poshmark pool, I decided that it was time for me to jump in. It was time for me to embrace the fact that, yes, I AM an entrepreneur. It was time for me to enrich my life and destroy any doubt I hold within myself. Sound familiar? Fans of Mel Robbin’s bestselling book The Five Second Rule have likely heard that said and know that you have five seconds to act on any decision before your brain will step in and kill the idea. So, with five small seconds to act upon, I clicked the purchase button for tickets to PoshFest 2021 before I could let me talk myself out of it.

So what is PoshFest?

Like any other annual conference you may have attended for work other personal ventures, PoshFest is set up with a series of sessions on topics pertaining to the industry that are designed to expand your knowledge base and help you grow. Each discussion panel is lead by one or more persons within the Poshmark community, including leaders and sellers with their own experiences to share, chocked full of leading advice, tips, and information to help you succeed as a reseller. Part-time and Full-time Poshers alike can benefit from the stories and advice shared within this event.

From the main stage “State of the Posh Union” keynote address from Poshmark CEO Manish Chandra , to the multi-reaching Breakout Sessions, Networking opportunities, and a heartfelt Fireside Chat with Poshmark Co-Founder Tracy Sun, the Poshmark team’s dedication to their company and brand was evident. Add in the newly unveiled merchandising tools designed to help sellers succeed, and you’ve got even more reasons to be in awe of this innovative company, who will celebrate ten years of business this December.

You are one decision away from a completely different life.

Becoming a reseller happened to me by accident. Though I have always carried a love for fashion in my heart, I became a librarian by trade, thrift shopping on the side to fit the budget of raising four kids with their own eye for style. It all began with a pair of lavender Nike canvas shoes. A gently-used pair that my daughter discovered for $15 on an app I had never heard of.

That first Poshmark purchase set loose a string of events that has stretched beyond my wildest imagination. I began selling a few things that my girls had outgrown but were full of life. And then more. And more. Becoming a reseller lit a fire in my heart that I had let burn out years ago. With nearly 1,100 sales currently under my belt HERE and my passion for blending the world of fashion with the written stories and books that connect us on a human level, PoshFest gave me even more ideas and motivation to expand on my dreams.

If you are going to attend PoshFest, you have to go all in. Buy the swag bag add-on of goodies, which this year included a t-shirt and bag, stickers, travel mug, pen, postcards, and a few other items. Spend time reviewing the agenda ahead of time to find the right session that meets your needs. This year’s agenda featured about 20 sessions from over 75 speakers with topics covering merchandising strategies, scaling to go full-time, inventory management, and photography and listing advice, and “Reselling With a Purpose: Your Guide to Thrifting and Secondhand” with (among others) Anh Pham IG @sunnysidesales who gave great advice for thrifters and created a spreadsheet of IG user names to help you connect with fellow Poshers found HERE.

And lastly, during PoshFest, make sure you jump on social media to share your experience and connect with the great faces behind the app. You. The reselling community. I shared “from where I Posh” to IG and Poshmark chose it as a Day 1 featured photo. How exciting!

No matter how you began, where you are in the process, or where you have dreams of going, PoshFest is a place for all resellers with a desire for knowledge to connect to a vibrant and energized community. If you missed this year’s virtual conference, don’t worry, there’s always next year. While you wait, you can get great content from a variety of social channels such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and through the many podcasts available, like Poshing Together by Christina Duehn (free where you find your podcasts) a part-time seller who shares relatable and practical advice and has a great Poshmark closet of her own.

Do you have five seconds to spare? According to bestselling author and internationally-renowned speaker Mel Robbins, “If you can count to five you can change your life.” Where do you see yourself in 2022? It’s time to start gathering those seeds of thought, counting to five, and putting them into action.
