What’s Reese Got to Do With It?

This blog is my way of mashing fashion with reading, books, libraries, and literature in a fun and fashionable way. So, what does Reese have to do with it?

By Reese, I am talking about Reese Witherspoon. Actress. Star of hit movies like Sweet Home Alabama, Legally Blonde, and Water for Elephants (which, coincidentally, is based on a book). Best Actress Academy Award winner for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in Walk the Line and Emmy Award recipient as an executive producer for the television series Big Little Lies (also based on a book), Reese has undoubtedly made her name in the film industry. But what does she have to do with fashion and books?

This Southern Belle is more than just a pretty face on the big screen, and here’s what she’s got to do with it.

It’s Women’s History Month, and the perfect time to talk about Reese Witherspoon’s contribution to the gender. Did you know that Reese is the founder of Hello Sunshine a media company created to celebrate and promote women through their authorship and the stories they tell. AND, (because there’s no limit to what she can do) she is the founder of the clothing label Draper James, named for her grandparents and created to honor her southern heritage.

Hello Sunshine and sister-site Reese’s Book Club were both developed by Reese to showcase meaningful written works created by women that we find inspiring, motivational, funny, thrilling, and insightful. Reese’s book picks encourage and challenge readers to share and discuss, and to bond with each other over the stories that move us.

A few Reese Book Club suggested titles: fiction, non-fiction, and YA selections.

Now, on to the fashion side of things. While you are reading one of these chosen women-centric stories, Reese offers a line of fashion to help you to look good while doing it. Her label, Draper James strives to bring contemporary, yet timeless Southern style to every woman. I personally love Draper James clothing. Maybe, because a majority of her collection is put together with navy blue and white fabrics, two of my favorite fashion color choices. These two classic, elegant, and timeless colors easily partner with pieces from your existing closet or remain standouts on their own.

Gingham check, delicate florals, lace, embroidery, and stripes are all part of what makes the Draper James label feminine, flirtatious, and versatile enough to suit every woman. Every piece I have ever owned from this label has a true-to-size fit (which is so important to me), is quality-made, and is wearable and washable (another must-have).

Be charming if you can; witty if you must. But always have grace.

Reese Witherspoon.

The pieces come with a price, so if you find this brand outside of your budget, shop second-hand through sites like Poshmark, where you will find great clothing at reasonable prices, and support self-made suppliers like myself. You can check out my closet here for some of my Draper James wearables.

And, make sure you check out Hello Sunshine and Reese’s Book Club. Reese has been selecting and suggesting books since 2017 and has 50 chosen titles in her collection. The Readership is her pay-it-forward platform that helps new and diverse writers gain popularity, supports independent (non-box) book stores, and increases access to books for all. And, this librarian can’t love that enough.
